6. Aren’t Palestinians better off under Israeli rule than they would be on their own?
This question is fundamentally racist and assumes that Palestinians cannot govern ourselves. Like all people, Palestinians are the most qualified people to care for ourselves, their resources, their land, and their community. Palestinians are not better off under the control of people whose state and society has been built on top of the bones of their friends and families.
The idea that any group of people are better off under the control of another group of people is deeply racist and, in this case, Islamophobic, but it also elides how capitalism, imperialism, and ultimately colonialism have shaped the political, economic, and legal structures within Palestinian society.
